The White House

"If Obama wins he will be the first African-American President of the United States of America"

With one day to go and polls strongly pointing to an Obama victory this statement may be true. But isn't Barack Hussein Obama as much white as he is black? Yes, his father was born in Kenya. Yes, he has the physical characteristics of an African-American man. But his mother is a white American from Wichita, Kansas who separated from her Kenyan husband when Obama was two years old. He had a privileged Western upbringing, attended Harvard Law School and lectured for twelve years on constitutional law. Hardly the same background as many of his African-American supporters. Don't the African-American electorate have more in common with John McCain's more modest background? The press speculate that many of the American public will not vote for a black man when they get to the booth. Yet, how many African-Americans will vote for McCain? The colour of ones skin is still significant, however many times you hear both sides of supporters say it is not.
